OneWheel Build

2022

There is not much to talk about for this project as it was a lot of mechanical work and I covered controlling the motors in my "Controlling Hoverboard Motors" project.

I basically found out about OneWheels and thought they were neat, but not practical. I also didn't want to spend like a million dollars on one. My solution was to take apart a old hoverboard with a dead battery and put the wheels next to each other (one with flipped direction).

Apologies for the lack of videos of my projects at times, it can be hard to film stuff that only spontaneously works. I also tend to get my projects to work and then disassemble them right after because I had a better idea and not enought materials.

I basically just hacked the Hoverboard motherboard and relocated the sensor daughterboard (while soldering a pair of the daughterboard's signal wires to the other daughterboard). I then build the base out of wood because it's all I had and the standing plates out of acrylic, because it's all I had. Then I taped some sandpaper to the acrylic to make it grip better.

I reused a spacebar from an old keyboard and a couple small tactile buttons to make the foot sensor. I soldered this sensor into the daughterboard where the foot sensor was originally.
